Ricoh Caplio R25.0 megapixel camera-incorporating 4.8x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens, 2.5 inch LCD in a super slim 2.5.5 mm body.

Ricoh is excited to announce the new Ricoh Caplio R2 digital camera—a 5.0 megapixel masterpiece offering an exciting new experience in digital photography. The Caplio R2 combines an incredible 4.8x optical zoom lens that guarantees quality pictures with an awesome 2.5-inch LCD that provides super high-resolution images for your viewing pleasure and enlarged characters and icons for enhanced functionality. The 25.5-mm stylishly thin body of the Caplio R2, made possible by Ricoh’s innovative retractive lens system, packs more advanced technologies than you would imagine, yet the user-friendly interface of the extra-large LCD lets both professional photographers and photo enthusiasts take full advantage of those powerful features to shoot excellent pictures with astounding simplicity. With PictBridge compatibility and the innovative Image Mixer software, the Caplio R2 goes beyond the power of taking exceptional pictures into the realm of multimedia.

Main Features:
A Powerful Combination of 28mm Wide-Angle Lens and 4.8x Optical Zoom. Whether you’re travelling in a foreign city or hiking in the mountains, the Caplio R2 is all you need to capture the vast beauty of the commanding scenery or the fine details of a faraway object. With a near-panoramic 75-degree angle of view, the Caplio R2’s 28mm wide-angle lens can shoot a surprisingly large amount of spatial area. Since you don’t have to stand back a considerable distance to “squeeze in all that you want to include—as you would need to with a conventional 35mm digital camera—it is especially useful when you want to take in a wide scene from a stationery position.

On the other hand, when you can’t get as physically close to an object as you would like, the Caplio R2’s 4.8x optical zoom will bring it closer to you with startling clarity. A five-step preset zoom function lets you zoom from 28mm to 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and to 135mm quickly with a touch of a button. The 135mm 3.6x digital zoom coupled with the 4.8x optical zoom gives an astonishing 17.3x zoom capacity, and Ricoh’s unique Smooth Imaging Engine ensures sharp and vivid images even in large printed formats.

A Simply Awesome 2.5-inch Extra-Large LCD.
Dominating more than two-thirds of the rear of the Caplio R2 is an impressive, high-definition 2.5-inch LCD that is sure to dazzle you. It is considerably larger and provides more image details than any LCD fitted on digital cameras as compact as the Caplio R2. No more squinting at daytime glares, because the Caplio R2’s LCD is equipped with a convenient one-touch brightness adjustment mechanism so you can confirm your image in the LCD even in bright sunlight. No more peering into the monitor either, because the extra-large size of the LCD displays enlarged text that is easier to read, and expertly arranges an array of helpful icons without obscuring the image you are about to take. Icons representing basic modes and settings, such as shooting mode, flash and macro settings, can be further enlarged so you always know what your current settings are at a glance. Other useful functions include a histogram that lets you confirm the exposure of your image and make the necessary adjustments before actually taking the picture, and the ADJ (adjust) button, which calls up the most frequently-used exposure, white balance, and ISO settings at once. When you want to play back your pictures, you can choose to display one, three, or twelve pictures at a time. A one-picture display lets you enjoy even the smallest details of a picture, while a twelve-picture display saves you the time and effort when searching for a desired picture.

Three Super Fast Responses.
Quick responses are essential to capturing picture-perfect moments. From start-up to shutter response, the Caplio R2 boasts one of the fastest response times of all digital cameras. Incredibly, it takes only 0.8 seconds for the Caplio R2 to be ready to shoot after it is turned on. When you press the shutter button (full-press), the shutter responds instantaneously in about 0.06 seconds. Calculated from the time the focus is locked (half-press) the shutter responds in a miraculous 0.003 seconds. With the Caplio R2, you’ll never miss those spontaneous moments you want to treasure forever. Moreover, the Caplio R2 can be ready to shoot the next picture in less than a second, and its continuous shooting mode lets you shoot up to 16 consecutive images with one prolonged press of the shutter button. Utilizing this feature, you may want to take continuous pictures of a bird taking flight or a toddler’s first unsteady steps and play them back on the extra-large LCD one by one or as a slide show.

The Exquisite Macro World.
Let your imagination and creativity run free with the Caplio R2’s unique 1cm macro mode. Take a macro shot of a flower petal from a distance of just 1cm and open your eyes to an exquisite world of intricate details unseen to the naked eye. Or create a surrealistic picture of an ordinary scene by playing with the perspective. You can even change the point of focus without moving the camera using the auto focus shifting function to produce an artistic effect. Finally, a special pre-flash illuminates objects in macro mode to allow for clear shots without producing the whiteout effects that a regular flash may cause in such cases. However you use the Caplio R2’s macro function, it will add a whole new dimension to the excitement of digital photography.

More Functions than Meets the Eye.
A host of new and improved functions work behind the scenes of the Caplio R2 to support your photography efforts. The Caplio R2 adopts a multipoint focus system, which divides the image displayed on the LCD into 20 zones and indicates the current focus areas so you can confirm your focus accuracy before taking a picture. In macro mode, an upgraded auto focusing technology measures the closeness, size, and contrast of the macro image to ensure focus precision. When taking pictures in dim indoor light, the Caplio R2 automatically optimises ISO sensitivity and shutter speed to prevent slow shutter speeds that can lead to blurring from camera shake. Furthermore, the Auto Bracket feature helps you take pictures in difficult light by automatically shooting three consecutive shots at three different exposure levels.

Great Versatility.
The Caplio R2 doesn’t stop at taking pictures. The Caplio R2 merges with digital printing technology using the PictBridge* interface and lets you easily and quickly transfer pictures from the Caplio R2 to a Ricoh color printer or other PictBridge printer directly with a USB connector. No PC or driver is needed. For those photo enthusiasts who want to print their pictures right away and share them with friends, this capability is sure to be appreciated. You can also download your Caplio R2 pictures to a personal computer and use the bundled Image Mixer** software to edit them, compile them into an album, or store them on a photo CD. Never has sharing and processing pictures been this easy and fun.

Ultra Stamina Technology
The Caplio R2 guarantees long-lasting power with the versatility to switch between three different types of power sources—the lithium ion rechargeable battery, AA alkaline or nickel-hydrogen batteries, optional, and an AC power source. Charge your rechargeable battery before going on an outing, and take a couple of AA alkaline batteries as backup. You can shoot as many as 500* high quality images on one charge of the rechargeable battery and up to 200* images when using AA alkaline batteries. A combination of these power sources coupled with the Caplio R2’s energy-saving feature which turns off the LCD monitor when the camera is not in operation ensure efficient and optimum performance even over an extended period of time.
*Based on CIPA standard (50% flash and zoom usage, LCD on, 30 seconds between shots, reviews of all photos)
