Ricoh Caplio R1V Review - TrustedReviews

May 10, 2005 | Category: Ricoh Caplio R1V

Ricoh Caplio R1VThe R1V is a fairly average camera, but with one or two interesting features that set it apart from the crowd. It is a five megapixel model with a 4.8x optical zoom lens, a 1.8in LCD monitor and uses SD cards for storage. At around £180 it isn’t exactly cheap, but it is well built and looks good. The camera has an all-metal body and comes in two finishes - champagne or black. The camera’s main power switch is the handgrip feature on the front panel. Slide it right and the lens cover snaps open as the camera activates, slide it left and it shuts down, closing the lens in the process. I personally don’t like this type of switch, but I seem to be in a minority so I’ll keep quiet.

Ricoh Caplio R1V Review - Pocket-lint

Feb 28, 2005 | Category: Ricoh Caplio R1V

Ricoh Caplio R1VOn the face of it, the R1v provides plenty of resolution, enough for prints up to and over A3 and at a very competitive price indeed. There’s control enough to satisfy the enthusiast snapper and point and shoot brigade alike and all put together in one attractive package with a great lens.

In fact, I was raving about this camera until I got to inspect the images closely, then I was just raving mad. The camera is heavily let down by odd image artifacts; stripes running across each frame. This is a real shame for a camera that would otherwise be a stunning bit of kit. If it wasn’t for the image quality this would have been an 8/10.

Ricoh Caplio R1V Review - Shuttertalk

Feb 24, 2005 | Category: Ricoh Caplio R1V

Ricoh Caplio R1VWith the Caplio R1V, Ricoh have produced a consumer camera with some advanced features. While some manufactures prefer to simplify and focus on ease of use, it’s refreshing to see features such as manual focus, ISO 64 to 800, histogram overlay, interval timer and long exposure modes. I would have loved to see aperture priority, shutter priority and manual exposure modes as well, but I guess you can’t have everything.

Design-wise, the wide angle and telephoto range of the zoom lens makes it very versatile and attractive, and the compact, all metal case adds to the durability. The shutter response times and startup speeds nothing short of impressive, ensuring that photographers do less waiting and more shooting. If you’re willing to overlook the image quality issues with noise and over-zealous metering, the Caplio R1V could be the camera for you.

Ricoh Caplio R1V Review - DigiCamReview

Feb 07, 2005 | Category: Ricoh Caplio R1V

Ricoh Caplio R1VThe Ricoh Caplio R1v is a compact 5 megapixel digital camera with an impressive 4.8x wide optical zoom lens and a good 1.8″ screen. The camera records unlimited length 30fps videos with sound. It is easy to use, and produces good images with very good colour and detail. It is very quick, with a quick switch on time, focus time and shutter response time. For around £186 (UK) this fast, compact and feature packed camera offers excellent value for money. It’s quite stylish, fits very easily into pockets, produces very good images, and has an excellent macro mode. The only things that let this camera down are the zoom control, occassional corner darkness, and high noise.
