If you are aware of its shortcomings at least the camera can however be brought under your control, and there’s enough here than can be tweaked manually to allow you to get great shots at least 80% of the time.
While the Nikon Coolpix P5100 isn’t perfect, that quibble is to an extent at least negated by the fact that it doesn’t demand a premium price either. For that price you get a better-constructed, more fully featured camera than most 8 MP rivals. Meaning that, although the Nikon Coolpix P5100 doesn’t quite hit the full five stars, it’s still well worthy of your consideration.

a first impression review - the bottom line is would I buy this Nikon D3 camera? Actually, I pulled out my Amex card three times and asked Nikon to sell it to me, and three times they declined.
To me it really was that good - but as I stated earlier, I am predisposed to like Nikons. If there is only one thing I would like Nikon to offer is more Megapixels, at least 17 preferably over 20. For my work it just gives more options in cropping to full page verticals.

Clearly, any serious amateur photographer searching for a general-purpose camera that is both compact and economical should inspect the D40x. Barely more expensive than a number of bridge cameras, it offers greater flexibility and is only marginally bigger.

For such an unassuming little camera, the Nikon Coolpix L10 actually works pretty well. It’s responsive enough for casual shooting, and its (admittedly small) 5-megapixel photos look great. If you’re looking for a simple, functional camera and yet not too expensive, this makes a great choice.
If you’re willing to spend a bit more for slightly higher resolution photos, the L10’s bigger brothers, the Coolpix L11 and L12, offer 6- and 7-megapixels for a slightly more $$.

In light of its superior picture quality and higher resolution, and the fact that it is available for about the same price, the Nikon Coolpix L11 is significantly better value for money than the L10. In fact I have seldom seen such excellent value.
If you’re looking for a nice simple compact, maybe as a holiday camera or as a gift for a child, it is got to be at the top of your shortlist.
