The best thing about the Canon Powershot G6 is the image quality. In fact, I think the image quality of the G6 is comparable to 6 megapixel digital SLRs like the Canon Digital Rebel and the Nikon D70. Canon’s fast, 4x zoom lens paired with the 7-megapixel sensor makes for a camera with powerful photo potential. The Sony-made sensor is truly wonderful. Just so you know, this sensor is available in a bunch of other flavors, including Sony (because they make it), Olympus, Casio, and others. If you like the image quality but aren’t sold on the G6, you should take a look at some of the other cameras that use the same sensor. But be aware that the sensor isn’t the whole story. Image quality is a combination of the sensor, the lens, and the camera’s processor. The G6 package is a proven combination.

Canon Powershot G6 Review - CNET Reviews
modest update to the G5, the 7-megapixel PowerShot G6 faithfully follows in the footsteps of previous Canon G-series models. With a powerful, enthusiast-oriented feature set and very solid photo quality, it gets most of the same high marks as its predecessors. But its good-but-not-great performance lags behind the competition’s, keeping the G6 from garnering the Editors’ Choice-level ratings of its ancestors.
Canon Powershot G6 Review - Pocket-lint
The Canon Powershot G6 is Canon’s latest top-end model in the PowerShot range. An update of the old G5, the PowerShot G6 offers a versatile package of point and shoot options with a truck load of manual controls and sophisticated options for the enthusiast snapper. Although the G6 is not the most compact of digital compacts, is fairly pricey for the resolution and has more noise at higher ISOs than I’d like to see, it still packs in a huge amount of kit and has excellent handling and ergonomics. The superb lens helps record plenty of detail while the camera is particularly flexible thanks to the vari-angle LCD and versatile shooting tools.
